Palladium recovery from coal chemical waste catalysts

This paper discusses the process design for recovering palladium from waste catalysts in coal chemical industry, mainly including the following aspects:

1) The process design for waste catalysts in coal chemical industry, including the process flow (roasting, leaching, clarification, resin exchange, complexation, palladium precipitation, calcination, reduction), working principle, and process are briefly described.

2) Key equipment: The selection and material requirements of equipment such as the roasting system and tail gas treatment system, slurry filtration equipment, solution fine filtration equipment, and ion exchange resins are introduced.

3) Technical and economic indicators: The product obtained by this process is pure sponge palladium with a Pd content ≥ 99.9%; the direct palladium recovery rate ≥ 96.5%, and the total recovery rate ≥ 98%.

Two production enterprises have designed and put into operation using this process, both achieving full production capacity and generating good economic benefits for the enterprises. This process boasts advantages such as advanced technology, simple equipment, low energy consumption, minimal environmental impact, good working conditions, and the ability to comprehensively recover valuable metals with a high metal recovery rate. It can be used to treat both palladium-containing and platinum-containing waste catalysts, making it suitable for further promotion and application.

The acid and alkali waste gas treatment equipment consists of single-tower and double-tower models, as well as vertical and horizontal spray towers. They are assembled in sections using flanges. Specifically, it comprises a storage tank, tower body, air inlet section, spray layer, packing layer, cyclone demister layer, exhaust cone, and inspection ports.
